BPL 2017: Chris Gayle hammers 18 sixes in an innings to set to new T20 world record.
Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten 146 for Rangpur Riders in the BPL 2017 final and his knock was studded with 18 sixes.
Chris Gayle blasted an unbeaten 146 off 69 balls as Rangpur Riders finished 206/1 off their 20 overs in the Bangladesh Premier League at Dhaka.
Gayle hit 18 sixes in the course of his knock to better his own record for most sixes in a T20 innings. The 38-year-old Jamaican had smashed 17 sixes during his record-shattering 66-ball 175 not out for Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Pune Warriors in the 2013 IPL.
Gayle shared an unbroken 201-run stand with former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum who finished 51 off 43 balls. The Kiwi star hit three sixes which meant Rangpur Riders equalled RCB's record of 21 sixes - the most by a team in an innings.
He completed 11,000 runs in the shortest format of the game, and also became the first to score 20 centuries in T20s. He incidentally became the first player to blast 100 maximums in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Gayle had last played international for West Indies in September and has not featured in a Test match since 2014.
He was in poor form for RCB in the IPL this year, managing only 200 runs from 9 matches. However, his form in the BPL is certainly good news for RCB and it would be interesting to see whether they would still want to retain the West Indian or use their Right to Match card in the auction scheduled early next year.
On December 8, Gayle had hammered an unbeaten 126 off 51 balls in the BPL Eliminator against Khulna Titans.
